What's wrong with Gold Coast Smash? I've only heard great things.

JDot and I are both locals there. I mostly said it because he out of the blue said "yeah I'll come" when the thread was quite dead. Honestly it's my favourite tournament series.

Was a bad joke

A few notes for next weekend:

The crew battle rules are as follows:

Single elimination bracket, 5 players per crew, 3 stocks per player, no time limit. You will be character locked for the whole bracket, and each crew will need to provide me with a list of players and the characters they will be playing. This will be limited to 4 crews, and sign-ups will be on the day. The crew that places first will receive $100.

As always, parking is metered in Southport on Saturday, so make sure you park in the car park in front of or directly behind the venue if you plan on driving, and the exit off the M1 is number 66 (the Seaworld sign). Follow Smith Street into Southport from there. If you are catching the train, Helensvale Station is your stop and then catch the 704 Seaworld bus from there.

Please remember the new footwear policy that is being introduced with this event. Wear shoes at all times during the event or risk being disqualified.

Finally, if you need to satiate your Smash cravings before then, you should check out the Friday Night Smash page and their upcoming event on the 4th of November, Friday Night Smash #71 up in Fortitude Valley. Go give them a like here: https://www.facebook.com/qldfridaynightsmash/?fref=ts

As always there will be an amateur bracket for those who don't make it out of pools, and there will be a small prize for the winner. Any other questions don't hesitate to get in touch with me via Facebook or through here.

Hope to see you next Saturday!

Ho ho holy snowball, Batman! It's the most wonderful time of the year, and to celebrate half a year of Gold Coast Smash 4 tourneys we've decided to add some festive cheer. There will be Santa hats, there will be candy canes, there will definitely be Smash, and there may even be an appearance by a certain fat man, so you should definitely make the trip into Southport for a great day!

In addition to the usual Wii U brackets, there will be a seperate double elimination bracket for another Smash game (to be voted on by the people) which will be included in your entry fee to either singles or doubles. As a Christmas gift, every player new to this tournament series at this event will receive a $5 discount on their entry (stacks with setup discount)! There will also be a lucky door prize on the day.

Below is the ruleset we will be using for Brawl:

https://docs.google.com/document/d/10YsyblyGkXwsE5RL7zp2ZiB2Nnip36a2_bUhUIwBA5s/edit?usp=sharing

IMPORTANT: Please make sure that if you plan on bringing a Brawl setup that your Wii has Gamecube controller ports. Ensure you have all of the characters unlocked and all of the stages listed here unlocked. If either of these are not complied with I won't be able to give you a discount.

Here is the list of people who have preregistered. Remember that this event is limited to 50 entrants, so it is recommended that you sign up before the day:

Just the usual last minute stuff before the weekend:

All of your bracket entry fees, as well as your venue fee and any discounts you are claiming all need to go through the front desk when you arrive at the venue. Cash only! Please remember that there are 8 monitors and 1 CRT at the venue that we can use, as well as the CRT I will be bringing, so if you bring a setup without a screen you should still be able to claim a discount. If this is your first Gold Coast tournament then you will be able to claim a $5 discount at the front desk. All discounts stack at this event!

If you are claiming a setup discount for either game, please make sure that you have the right equipment and unlocks for your respective setup. For Smash 4 this would be a Wii U, Gamecube controller adapter, all characters and legal stages unlocked, and all DLC fighters + the Dreamland stage. For Brawl, this would be a Wii with Gamecube controller ports and all characters + legal stages unlocked.

For those driving to the venue, take exit 66 off the M1 (the one with the Seaworld sign) and follow the Smith Street Motorway into Southport. Street parking is metered on Saturday, so I would recommend getting to the venue early to get a park in the car parks directly in front of and behind the venue so you don't have to pay. Those catching the train should get off at Helensvale Station and then take the 704 Seaworld bus into Southport.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday 6th December) I'll be running the usual friendly round robin at the venue starting at 7pm with a $5 venue fee. If you can bring a setup it would be much appreciated!

Remember that there will be a few small door prizes given out on the day and there will be a prize for 1st and 2nd place in the Brawl bracket.

If you have any more questions about the event don't hesitate to get in touch with me. Other than that, I hope to see you on Saturday!
IMPORTANT! Unfortunately the venue no longer has monitors that we are able to use. If you plan on bringing a Smash 4 setup you will also need to bring a monitor in order to receive a discount. Apologies to anyone inconvenienced by this.

Since you're all so keen on having a Mario Party tournament, I've decided that the side event at this tournament will be Mario Kart 8 (angry reacts only)! Mario Party was going to be too hard to run on time and finding a version that was both fun and easy to run wasn't really an option (looking at you Mario Party 10). I'll post a Mario Kart ruleset closer to the event.

Tomorrow night (Tuesday the 10th) I'll be running the usual Smash 4 meet at Good Games Gold Coast. 7pm start and $5 venue fee, and if we get enough people to show up I'll also run a small $5 double elimination bracket if people are keen. Please bring setups if you can!
Here's the preregistration form for this event: https://goo.gl/forms/sOCOrJExELvyqhXB3

Smash by the Beach Mario Kart 8 Rules:

150cc
All items on
No CPU
All kart/bike configurations are legal
All characters are legal

The tournament will be a single elimination, 1v1v1v1 format. Round 1 of bracket will be a play through of the Mushroom Cup from start to finish. Depending on the number of entrants on the day, the TO will choose the cups to be played for subsequent rounds, and the grand final will be an all-random 5 race grand prix. The top 2 players on points at the end of each race will advance until the grand final, where 1st, 2nd, and 3rd will all receive a prize.
Here's the list of players who have preregistered so far: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1shkQfU6RBkcsegcWlUaB9-71BHuTA9OnXv2SpDCUO1A/edit?usp=sharing

The usual last minute stuff:

At this event I will be handing out ballot papers for a poll I will be conducting. The poll will ask questions about preferences on stock count, legal stages, and timers (as well as anything else relevant I can think of by Friday night). The poll is entirely optional and anonymous, but it would be nice to get a decent data sample to see what the community generally wants, so if you plan on attending this event please participate in the poll!

For those driving to the event, take exit 66 off the M1 (the one with the Seaworld sign) and follow the Smith Street Motorway into Southport. Street parking is metered on Saturday so I would recommend parking in the car parks directly in front of and behind the venue to avoid paying for parking. Those taking the train down from Brisbane should catch the train to Helensvale Station and then take the 704 Seaworld bus into Southport from there.

As usual fortnightly Tuesday friendlies will be on at the venue tomorrow night (the 24th) starting at 7pm with a $5 venue fee, so come on down for some practice. Unfortunately I won't be able to make it but I will be informing the venue that some Smash 4 players may be showing up, so go get some practice in for Saturday!

Hope to see you all on the day!
