Here's my thoughts at the moment
America
Pros: Bigger scene, Lots of famous smashers, More potential for international attention and recognition
Cons: $$$
Japan
Pros: Flights are approx half as expensive as America, Still has a huge scene with lots of famous people, Weeb stuff if you're into that I guess?
Cons: Language barrier
Personally, my vote is on a US tournament somewhere on the west coast. Something like EVO 2017 or Genesis 2018 (6 months prob too little notice), depending on what time of year we want to go.

Vic scene already has plans to go to Japan iirc.
Since they're all going to drown anyways I would suggest America or New Zealand (lol Hey CubT)
America is cool.

Don't lie.
I guess Pudge can give you deets. I haven't really bothered looking into it.
06/21/2016 14:06:33
Sounds like Pudge's plan is "I'm going to Japan in December 2017, and people can follow if they want." Even though I'm sure there will be plenty of Smash on that trip, I had really hoped for a trip whose main focus is a huge super-major tournament, with an army of Australian smashers kinda similar to the 30+ strong Japanese presence at Genesis 3.
Don't get me wrong, I'm sure it'll be an amazing trip and I definitely don't want to discourage people from going, but it's not the kind of trip I'm personally super keen on (though I wouldn't rule out going). That said, perhaps we could look at Genesis 5, and people who are super keen could turn it into a two leg 1-2 month trip (AU > JP > US > AU flights would probably be not much more expensive than a return to US).

me and my family are already planning on heading to murica in january (possibilities are cali, new york, arizona and washington) so if i go to a smash tourney there, i'll show the very pretty decent of what Australia can do.

A better idea is to call yourself really bad in the scene, like bottom 10% so if you win any games that makes Australia look better.

Basically the plan is go do touristy shit during the day then play during the night and then go out for dinner/drinks. Should be good fun, and great practice. Msg me if ur keen.

Japan is the best because they have shabu shabu and all you can drink for 2 hours and it's cheap as chips. Hostels = cheap accomodation = win. Tokyo is actually cheap for food comparative to the rest of Japan.

Best 151 yen you'll ever spend :)
In which cities are Japanese tournaments usually held?

Osaka + Tokyo.
If I was to go to one in osaka we'd be staying in kyoto since its much nicer.
